As we look back over the past month the first verse of hymn 116, Singing the Faith comes to mind.
“Sing for God’s glory that colours the dawn of creation”, the sun has been glorious in these short days that are so often dark, the sunsets even better and last week the ‘wolf moon’ was stunning.

Earlier this month we celebrated the feast of Epiphany when the Magi visited Jesus and were the first gentiles to visit the incarnate God. They offered him gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
We all have gifts to offer God. Perhaps we haven`t much gold lying around at home and the supermarket may be right out of Frankincense, but the small acts of kindness that we offer to each other in the name of Jesus are as precious to him as the Magi`s costly gifts.

In our house this week we have had a little bit of trepidation about the return to school. We are very fortunate that both children love school, however, whenever there has been a break the thought of returning to school always causes a sleepless night the night before….

“Discombobulating” is a word I confess I had never heard of before this year and strangely, it has appeared in several places since; I even heard one preacher use it within a sermon online, which I thought was very brave.

Over the past weekend my husband and I have been visiting London. On Sunday morning we decided to attend the Carol Service at All Soul’s Langham Place. It followed a traditional format, with an orchestral backing the singing was great and the atmosphere just as it should be.

Dear Friends,
I thought I’d share this letter to Santa:
Dear Santa,
I remember the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning, knowing that you had come the previous night and given out some presents, blissfully unaware that those people in Germany got their presents the previous night! Nevertheless, as I have grown older the things that you represent to me have changed, and this Christmas, rather than presents, I have a few suggestions to make for the future of your enterprise.

Prepare a way for the Lord
A preacher one Sunday approached the pulpit with the words of the Gospel ringing in his ears: ‘Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.’ A thought suddenly struck him: ‘It’s not the Lord’s paths that need to be straightened but ours.’
Dec: Thoughts from Huw
We hear the song of the angels In Luke`s Gospel Ch2 v 14; `Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours.`
Once again we are approaching Christmas and Peace is one of the things we always associate with the festive season. Luke Ch 1 v79 tells us that one of the reasons Jesus comes is `to guide our feet into the ways of peace.` These are among some of the loveliest words in the Gospel. Indeed, you could say they sum up the Gospel.
But peace is not merely the absence of war or dissension. It is something deeper and richer. The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. Shalom conveys a sense of completeness, a state of perfect well-being.
